Have a Hart, Man

It’s easy to eschew former high-profile television executives whose exits have little to do with “spending more time with the family” than they do “dismal performance.” But that’s what we thought about Rick Kaplan, the CNN and ABC News vet whose last act was overseeing MSNBC’s ratings troubles before popping up as Katie Couric’s exec producer at the CBS Evening News.
So what, then of Rome Hartman — the man whose job Kaplan took? He’s landed a tony executive producer role at the BBC, where “he’ll develop and executive produce a new 7 p.m. newscast that will run on BBC America and BBC World News,” says Mediaweek. The new programming is set to launch this fall, just as CBS’s mammoth ad spend to promote Katie Couric (again) officially falls short.
