Meet Michael Vick’s Other Spokesperson
Posted by on 08/16/07 in Array

On Tuesday, we had a burning desire to find out who Susan Bass is. She’d been speaking to the press on behalf of dog fighting connoisseur Michael Vick, with outlets like the Washington Post calling Bass his “publicist.” Bass is not Vick’s PR person, in fact, but communications chief for Vick’s football team, the Atlanta Falcons.
But as we noticed yesterday, it wasn’t Bass handling Vick’s press treatment, but Collins Spencer III, who told CNN “nothing has been decided yet” in regards to Vick copping a plea deal.
So begs the question: Who’s this guy?
Turns out Spencer runs a PR firm that Vick’s defense attorneys hired to spin their client’s debacle. And Spencer knows exactly what he’s doing, especially when he speaks to CNN — because Spencer used to work there. He most recent placement was at Atlanta’s WSB-TV, a Cox Television station, where he was a morning and noon news anchor. Spencer came over from his stint at CNN and CNN Headline News, where he was a daytime anchor. And before that, he was at Fox News.
From what we understand, Spencer was brought on board Vick’s camp at the end of last month. That “camp” also includes a slew of attorneys: Daniel Meachum (from Atlanta), Billy Martin (from Washington), and, of course, Vick’s always-there lawyer Lawrence H. Woodward Jr.
Who needs Mike Sitrick when you’ve got this all-star team?
