CBS Insists Kid Nation Will Be a Hit

CBS serves up some spin in today’s New York Times, and maintains the show isn’t some Darwinian experiment. We separate the reality from the reality TV:

CBS Says:

“Everybody’s questions about the show will be answered when it airs,” says Tom Forman, the show’s Executive Producer.
Reality:
The station is so afraid of losing advertisers that it held advanced screenings last week and will have more this week.

CBS Says:
If there is a second season, Kid Nation won’t return to New Mexico.
Reality:
The New Mexico attorney general reopened its investigation of the show two weeks ago.

CBS Says:
International television companies have already contacted the station about buying the format rights to the show.
Reality:
International child labor laws are looser.

CBS Says:
Once the show airs, this controversy will blow over.
Reality:
You can’t buy this kind of publicity.
